How long have you been riding a bike?
Since I was a kid of course
Tell us something inspiring and/or unique about yourself that relates to cycling.
I strictly ride 20″ bmx freestyle bmx bikes. I currently ride a Pedal Driven Cycle modified Superboost. I have never felt comfortable on any other size or type of bike.
What is the biggest accomplishment you’ve made on a bike?
My biggest accomplishments that I have made in cycling is simply being positive and encouraging other riders to try – that many times failure is the first step to success. I have organized fundraiser jams for injured riders, and participated in running Olympic qualifying events. I overcame my own self doubt and learned barspins, oppo bars, backflips (into foam); flatland maneuvers including infinity rolls and half-lashes and was able to jump a set of doubles at my local trail spot and am in process of digging my own line. I completed a 60mile ride on my 20″ with the Biogen Rolling Clones and continue to promote bmx as an admin on @northcarolinabmx and @shotguntrails.
What’s the biggest challenge you faced with regards to cycling and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge has been overcoming my own insecurities and simply taking that first step. I felt intimidated being a 40+ year old woman (and mother of three) rolling into a skatepark, trails or event solo – the biggest hurdle was purely getting over myself and own mental blocks. That first step, first drop in, first full send is the hardest and something I struggle with to this day. My challenge is learning self reliance, independence and gaining the confidence that I have the ability and persistence needed to succeed. I may not be the fastest or most skilled bmx rider, but heart counts for something.

Riding has been invaluable in regards to my own mental health, growth and development. I have received some of the best advice and perspectives from younger riders on the decks of these ramps. Riding gave me back my identity and, with that, I found my tribe again.
