How long have you been riding a bike?
Been riding bikes since I was a child. It wasn’t until I was 18 when I felt it was a passion rather than just riding down the block to visit friends.
Tell us something inspiring and/or unique about yourself that relates to cycling.
Jumping into cycling is, without a doubt, the one activity that has opened up so many new opportunities to learn and be part of something bigger within the community. Moving to North Carolina without friends or family to fall back on has been a challenge. Knowing that there’s a community with open arms ready to keep you motivated in life’s most difficult times has been a blessing.
What is the biggest accomplishment you’ve made on a bike?
This sounds a little silly but it was the moment I overcame the fear of hopping over a curb. I see others avoid it by riding around or walking over it. Its obvious how uncomfortable they are with this obstacle yet amazing with some encouragement how insignificant this challenge becomes. Word to those out there still struggling with this, put a helmet on, grab a buddy and practice this in a parking lot. It will increase your confidence on a bike and may help you get out of a sticky situation one day. =)
What’s the biggest challenge you faced with regards to cycling and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge is doubt. Doubt that I can ride so many miles, doubt that I can become a good bike polo player, doubt that I can make meaningful friendships in this community. Having these doubts set in my mind have been a burden to the experience. Instead I throw myself in any cycling related event and do my best. That best can leave me trailing everybody or leading the pack. Doesn’t matter. Its about letting myself experience the moment while seeing how much I can push my own limits and seeing those around you do the same.
