Raleigh, we have exciting news! The Gorman Street Connector, which will provide a critical link for our greenway system, has a pre-construction meeting scheduled for June 14th at 6pm. This project has been in the docket for a while, so it’s very encouraging to hear that construction is imminent and that this facility will soon be online.
We encourage you to attend the preconstruction meeting (register here) to learn about the timeline for the project and see final renderings of the facility that will be built. This will be a bi-directional cycle track configuration that is separated from vehicular traffic by bollards. Once complete (construction currently indicates a Fall 2021 completion) it will look similar to the image below.
This will connect our greenway system along Gorman Street and will improve a section of the “Art to Heart” corridor and the East Coast Greenway, which aims to provide a shared-use trail connecting 3,000 miles all the way from Maine to Florida.
The City of Raleigh is using capital funding to implement the project, with funding for construction provided through a federal grant awarded through the Capital Area MPO’s Locally Administered Project Program. Learn more about the LAPP program and it’s funding structure here.
