50 Miles For 50 Years: Round 2!

Did you know that Raleigh’s Capital Area Greenway Plan was officially adopted in 1976? Celebrate this historic anniversary with Oaks & Spokes on Saturday, October 4th, beginning at 9:30 am from Chavis Park for the second iteration of our 50 Miles for 50 Years greenway tour! We’ll be launching at one of the oldest segments in the system and exploring some of the newest sections along the way. Not up for a full 50 miles, or can’t meet us until later? Jump in with the group at four designated join points. We’ll end back at Chavis Park between 2:30-3pm.

We anticipate this ride will have a 10-12 mph pace, and we’ll make sure the group stays together and no one is left behind. Bring snacks, water bottles, sunscreen, and basic tools. While the majority of the ride will be on paved greenways, there is a 1 mi uphill section of gravel road (Turkey Creek trail) in Umstead State Park that connects the Old Reedy Creek greenway to the west Crabtree Creek extension. This road is wide and typically very smooth, but occasionally shows erosion damage or sand. If you aren’t as confident on unpaved surfaces, consider joining us for a different section of the ride!

Access the route on Ride With GPS here.
