Build-A-Traffic Garden at Empower All's STEAM Day.
April 12, 2025 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Roberts Park, 1300 E Martin St, Raleigh, NC 27610, USA
Join us for the Build A Traffic Garden at Empower All Inc's STEAM event on Saturday, April 12th, as we celebrate technologies solving 21st Century challenges such as walkable and bikable transportation systems reducing Greenhouse gas emissions! We invite you to assist the Oaks & Spokes staff with this engaging and educational activity designed for our youth traffic safety program to bolster pedestrian and active mobility skills.
During the event, Oaks & Spokes staff will guide volunteers and attendees in using tools and supplies to create a miniature world of streets. Volunteers will help attendees measure and draw the layout on an empty parking lot, assemble traffic signs and secure them in place, and set up pop-up tents that represent destinations such as work, play, and home.
Once everything is completed, families will have the opportunity to navigate the miniature streets to learn about traffic patterns and the rules of the road, helping to increase safety for everyone using this public space. We hope to see you there!

Interested in volunteering more with Oaks and Spokes? Want to be part of more active travel advocacy? Or do you have a bike ride or event idea you’d love to see happen and need more support?
Join our Events and Advocacy Committee monthly meetups! Our committees are open to anyone who wants to help Oaks and Spokes grow.
Our Events Committee works with Oaks and Spokes staff and Board members to develop, plan, and execute unique rides and events. This can be anything from an alleycat to a bike art show to a bike-themed movie screening. If you love bringing people together and have fun, new ideas, join our Events Committee!
Our Advocacy Committee works with Oaks and Spokes staff and Board members to develop, organize, and execute advocacy initiatives around active travel in Raleigh. These initiatives include biking and walking audits, bike lane cleaning events, letter-writing campaigns, tactical urbanism, legal guerrilla activism, and civic engagement.
Both committees meet at the same time and location on the fourth Thursday of each month. Keeping the schedule consistent helps maintain momentum and makes it easier to keep showing up. With both committees meeting together, there’s also an opportunity for collaboration between the two! So, if you're interested in both committees, you'll have the opportunity to pop into each group in one visit. SMART! RIGHT?
Locations may vary as we identify a suitable place to host these meetings.
